Well - In my book I spend some time talking about how
awesome the muscle cars from the '70 were. It's weird, but some of these vehicles are so HOT that it makes me just
really want them. I am so amazed that they use so many of these incredible cars on TV shows and movies
today. I have pulled a few pics off the web and I show them here with labels of the movies they're from. And - to me - the only cars that compare with these iconic muscle cars are the retro versions of them that they are re-creating and getting out on the market today.

Does make me wish that I had never sold my '73 Camaro... although at the time I didn't really have an option. There we were - a young married couple, new baby on the way... an '85 Accord made a lot more sense than a big 2-door sporty car. Of course, now that the kids are all grown up and I'm looking for a mid-life
celebration (not crisis) toy - Ive got my eyes on a new Corvette, or a new Camaro. Donations are welcome! :)

Love the pics. There is a car in the city where I live similar to that last one-- restored beautifully-- orange with the black stripes. I am not a 'car' person but I get a little turned on when I see that one out and around town.
ReplyDeleteSuze - Yeah - my wife was already on the road to falling in love with me at college before she got to see my car in person. But - the hot '73 Camaro with the custom paint job, sporty fiberglass cowl induction hood, custom wheels and tires, and 350 large block that would bury you in the seat when I stood on it probably helped to seal the deal! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of some terrific cars. I always liked the Camaro when I was a kid and the car on the Rockford Files - that was a Trans Am, right? I'm not trusting my memory much these days. I like the classic car on the show Supernatural too. My mind is blank on what kind it is right now though.
ReplyDeleteLaraAnn - You're right - Jim Rockford did have a sweet gold Trans Am. And for all that, Starsky and Hutch drove a beautiful Ford Gran Torino, and let's not forget the beautiful fastback Mustang that Steve Mcqueen drove in Bullitt.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm talking more about classic cars like these that are in new shows and movies today. Sounds like there's one on Supernatural, but I've never seen that show.
Now that the sun's finally shining and we're getting some warmer weather here in the Northwest, my mind is dreaming of the fun I could have in a nice muscle car like on e of these... *sigh* I'll keep dreaming...
Muscle cars always scare me - they remind me of that movie Christine. Ha ha! I like old euro cars. I think that's my dad's influence. My very first car was a 1970 Mercedes. Loved that thing, it was like a tank!
ReplyDelete- I vaguely remembered the movie Christine, so I looked it up on the web and then it all came back to me. It was a good old scary movie by John Carpenter. Sure, it had its silly '70s movies parts, but it was good - especially at the time it came out.
ReplyDeleteI've never even ridden in a Mercedes, much less owned one. They sure look to be nice solid cars. But - my nature is definitely "form over function" so I'd take a less tank-like but much more sporty muscle car over a Mercedes any day (in case y'all are wondering what to get me for my birthday in 9 days. :)

ReplyDeleteI've noticed that the new "retro" styled muscle cars are popular as well - I've seen quite a few of the new Chevy Camaros and Dodge Challengers around. I recently saw one of the former at a local Walmart and was surprised to see an old lady step out of the driver's side!

Pam, Pam, Pam! Be careful who you call "old"! :) Some of us who are lingering around the half-century mark look 10 - 15 years older, while some of us look 10 -15 years younger! I believe that I'm fortunate enough to fall into the latter group as people are always surprised to hear my age and usually think I'm 40-ish.
ReplyDeleteAnyway - the point is that many of us "older folks" are the ones driving those cars because a)they're what we drove when we were kids, and b)we're the ones that can afford the 35K - 45K (depending on options) price tags.
My wife didn't surprise me with a new Camaro for my birthday on this last Wednesday :(, and my '95 Accord is getting up there in miles and years. Who knows? Maybe the next "old guy" you see getting out of a hot new Camaro will be me! :)
I have to jerk myself back to reality once or twice a year when I want to buy a project car! I want a Ford Falcon so bad, but alas.. I don't have the time, room, or money to fund the hobby =^( Bicycle customization and restoration are a lot cheaper, and are just as satisfying (to me at least)
ReplyDeleteSomething about these cars intimidate me - like they're too tough. I think I prefer German cars. My first car was a 1970 Mercedes, I loved joking that the car was 2 years older than me!
